Magnesium stearate is a white, soapy powder made from magnesium and stearic acid, widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and foods as a lubricant, flow agent, and binder, preventing ingredients from sticking to manufacturing equipment while also controlling drug release and improving product texture. Generally safe (GRAS), it provides lubrication, enhances powder flow, slows dissolution, and gives products a smooth feel, though large amounts can have a laxative effect.
